On 24 August 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov visited the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg after the BRICS summit held in the South African Republic.
Accompanied by the rector of the church archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, Sergey Lavrov visited the St. Sergius church, which this year celebrates 20 years since its consecration.
Father Daniil talked about the life of the Russian Orthodox parish, its role in the spiritual association of the diaspora in the south of the African continent, about preservation of the Russian language among the compatriots, and the promotion of the Russian culture in foreign countries.
