Orthodox literature in African languages published by Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa

The Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa has published Orthodox literature in African languages through financial support offered by Mr.Nikolai Yu. Breyev, head of the Nikea Publishing House. There were published the Gospel according to Mark with the Holy Fathers’ interpretations in Swahili, the Orthodox Catechism of St. Nicholas of Serbia in the Chichewa language, and the Orthodox Catechism for Children in the Bemba language.

The Gospel according to Mark was translated into Swahili by Archimandrite Zacharias (Mulingwa). Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, gave copies to the believers of Tanzania during his archpastoral visit to the country. Part of the edition was sent to Kenya, said Rev. Georgy Maximov, chair of the Exarchate’s Missionary Department.

Deacon Savva Kadjawa, a cleric of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, translated the Catechism of St. Nicholas of Serbia into the Chichewa language. Copies were distributed by Metropolitan Konstantin to parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church in Malawi.

The Catechism for Children was translated by Rev. Sylvester Mumbi, a cleric of the Exarchate in Zambia, and distributed among the faithful living in the country by Metropolitan Konstantin.

“These books are very important here and have been received by the faithful with deep reverence, because there are almost no books about Orthodox faith in local languages. Priests and their assistants will use them for catechization,” Rev. Georgy Maximov wrote in his Telegram channel.
