On September 29, 2023, at the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in the Russian Federation, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, Priest George Maximov, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mauritius to Russia, Kheswar Jankee.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, as Metropolitan Leonid of Klin said in his telegram channel.
The meeting was attended by Archpriest Dimitry Matienko, who is going on a long-term business trip to Mauritius to solve current issues for the organisation of parish life.
The parties discussed the registration of the Exarchate in Mauritius and the teaching of the basics of the Orthodox faith in the “School of Religions”, an institution that unites all the traditional faiths in this country.
Mr. Jankee said that there is a possibility of gratuitous allocation of land from the government for the construction of a church of the Russian Orthodox Church and assured of full support of the mission of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church.
