Russian Orthodox priest visits children’s home in Burundi

On January 10, Rev. Antony Skrynnikov, head of the Missionary Department of the Diocese of Stavropol, visited a private children’s home located in the suburb of the town Bujumbura, the Republic of Burundi. The trip is a part of activities of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.

The priest was accompanied by officials of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Burundi.

Fr Anthony talked with children and employees and told them about the feast of the Nativity of Christ.

“There is a big municipal dumping site near the children’s home. The smell is awful. Many people live there, and parents who cannot support their children leave them at the dump, sometime even the newborn babies. Volunteers inspect the dump regularly in search of these children,” the priest said.

He presented the children’s home with a gas stove with oven on behalf of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa and the Missionary Department of the Diocese of Stavropol.
