The Russian Orthodox Church continues to provide aid to those in need in eastern Madagascar, who have not yet recovered from the devastating Cyclone Gezani. The storm struck this part of the island last year, causing enormous damage to local residents.
On September 23, 2026, with the support of donors from the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, blankets and school supplies for children were distributed to those in need, many of whom are members of our parishes. Children’s toys were also donated.
A total of 180 families in the municipality of Mahanoro and in the city of Toamasina, where the parishes of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa are located, received assistance. The distribution of aid was coordinated by the rector of the parishes, Father Seraphim Zafilahy.
