A humanitarian campaign is underway in the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

A humanitarian aid campaign has begun in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the support of donors from Russia. The aid is intended for members of the Russian Orthodox Church who are facing a severe food shortage due to ongoing armed conflicts and the difficult socioeconomic situation in the region.

Various food items and hygiene products have been purchased for those in need. The distribution of aid is being coordinated by the dean of the country’s church districts, Priest Nicholas Musoya.

On May 10, the 5th Sunday after Easter, the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, Father Nicholas Musoya celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Tenke (Lualaba Province).

After the service, flour, rice, pasta, vegetable oil, salt, and soap were distributed to those in need.

At the parish of the First-Called Apostles Peter and Paul in the village of Uvira (South Kivu Province), the Liturgy was celebrated by the parish rector, Priest Clement Mastaki. After the service, the priest distributed food to the parishioners.

The humanitarian campaign will last for a month. About four hundred people in nine cities and villages across the country will receive aid.
