A piece of the relics of the Holy Martyr Maurice was donated to the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
The memory of the Holy Martyr Maurice and those with him: Gereon, Cassius, Florentius, and other warriors is celebrated on the feast of All Saints Who Have Shone Forth in the Land of Germany, on the Sunday closest to September 20/October 3. The feast was established by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on August 24, 2023 (journal №64).
The martyrs suffered around 300 AD for refusing to sacrifice to the Roman gods and participate in the execution of Christians.
Holy warriors have long been honoured in many parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Europe.
Archpriest Dimitry Matienko will bring the particle of the relics of the Holy Martyr Maurice to the Republic of Mauritius, where a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church in honour of Saint Maurice will soon be established, as the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa Metropolitan Leonid of Klin said in his telegram channel.
