Rev. George Maximov, chair of Missionary Department of Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, arrives in Cameroon

Rev. George Maximov, chair of Missionary Department of Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, arrives in Cameroon.

He began his trip by holding a pastoral meeting with the Exarchate clergy in Cameroon. Participants in the meeting discussed plans for developing mission in the country and resolved several administrative and parochial matters.

On 12th February 2023, Sunday of the Prodigal Son, commemoration day of the Ecumenical Teachers and Hierarchs, Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Holy Resurrection Parish in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. Fr George officiated at the Liturgy. Concelebrating with him were clergymen of the Patriarchal Exarchate.

After the divine service, Fr George presented certificates of honour and prizes to the young parishioners who had won an Orthodox Drawing contest.

That same day later, the chair of the Missionary Department met with a “bishop” of a certain uncanonical group who wishes to join the Russian Orthodox Church. According to the standard practice, he can only be received as a layman.

Among other matters, there were admitted for consideration appeals from the clerics of the Archdiocese of Cameroon of the Church of Alexandria who would like to transfer to the Moscow Patriarchate.
