On April 20, the parish centre of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted the Total Dictation annual educational event. It brought together parishioners, compatriots and guests who wanted to test and improve their knowledge of the Russian language.
The Total Dictation was held with the support of the Russian Embassy in South Africa, the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office and the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots’ Organisations in South Africa, which shows that it is an important event to the Russian-speaking community in the region. Dictating the text was Ms Irina Lynova, a parishioner of St. Sergius Church.
The event provided an encouragement to a lot of people in their further language studies.
The Total Dictation is held annually around the world as part of the global initiative aimed at upholding and promoting the Russian language among its speakers outside of Russia. Such events help strengthen cultural ties and maintain linguistic identity among Russian compatriots.
