On the 8 of September 2023, there was an earthquake in the Mountain province of El Haouz in Morocco with a magnitude of 6.8, which killed and affected hundreds of people.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ sent a message of condolences in connection with the natural disaster to King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
The Council of Churches of Morocco also expressed its condolences to the Moroccan people. Among the signatories was Archpriest Maxim Massalitin, cleric of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Rabat.
The parish of the Resurrection of Christ held a fundraiser to help the victims. The amount collected (40 thousand dirhams) was distributed between the State Fund No. 126 and a school from the affected village of Talamut in the province of Taroudant.
Most of the work on the transfer of aid to the school was undertaken by compatriots, members of the community in Agadir, reports the website of the Exarchate with reference to the telegram channel of the Orthodox community of Morocco. According to the list received from the school, the parishioners bought warm jackets, hats, gloves and shoes, as well as a printer and sports balls.
In November, the aid was delivered to the mountain village in Agadir by the parishioners.
