On 8th of July 2023, Priest George Maximov, chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, celebrated a divine service in Harare, capital of Zimbabwe. It was attended by the Russian citizens residing in Harare and members of their families.
The day before, Father George held meetings with H.E. Mr Nikolai Krasilnikov, Russia’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, and staff members of the Embassy, as well as with Russian compatriots and entrepreneurs. The meetings were instrumental in developing plans for the nearest future, which included necessary steps towards opening a parish in that African country.
To conclude his trip, Fr. George administered the Sacrament of Baptism, spoke on various religious topics with believers and distributed Orthodox literature.
“Our compatriots’ community in Zimbabwe applied to the Russian Orthodox Church, asking to open a parish in the country. Work is under way,” Metropolitan Leonid of Klin wrote in his Telegram channel, adding, “Zimbabwe has become the 25th African country where the Russian Orthodox Church is present.”
