Rev. George Maximov, chair of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, concluded his visit to Angola.
On 18th June 2023, Sunday of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Russian Land, Father George celebrated the Liturgy at the Russian school in Luanda, capital of Angola. During the divine service, Russian compatriots received the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion and prayed for their relatives and friends.
The day before, Fr. George met with H.E. Mr Vladimir Tatarov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Angola, and with local Russian residents to discuss prospects of establishing the Russian Orthodox Church’s presence in the country on a permanent basis.
During his trip, Fr. George met with the leader and representatives of a local uncanonical Orthodox Christian group who ask to be received into the bosom of the Russian Church. An agreement was reached to start catechizing the community members.
“I express gratitude to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Angola, Mr Vladimir Tatarov, for organizing a work trip of the representative of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church and giving him a warm welcome,” Metropolitan Leonid of Klin wrote in his Telegram channel.
