Russian Foreign Minister visits St. Sergius Cathedral of South African Diocese

On February 21, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh of the South African Diocese in Johannesburg, the South African Republic, after completing the official events of G20 Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry was greeted by Archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, rector of the cathedral and dean of the parishes in South Africa.

Accompanied by the rector, Minister Lavrov went round the cathedral and saw its shrines. Archpriest Daniil talked about the life of the Russian Orthodox parish, its significance for spiritual unity of the diaspora living in the south of the African continent, for preservation of the Russian language among the compatriots and the promotion of Russian culture in the far abroad countries.

Discussed was the activity of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa and the role played by the Cathedral of the South African Diocese in strengthening the Orthodox mission in the spirit of Christian love and mutual understanding.
