The Chairman of the DECR attended the minor consecration of a church at the construction site of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in Egypt

On May 26, 2026, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, who is on a brief visit to Egypt with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, was present in El Dabaa for the minor consecration of the Church of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Egypt located on the site of a nuclear power plant being constructed by the state corporation for atomic energy “Rosatom.”

The Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church was celebrated by the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa, and Bishop Euthymius of Lukhovitsy, who were concelebrated by Hieromonk Mitrofan (Soldatenko), Priest Dimitry Gurov, a cleric of the Egyptian Deanery, and Protodeacon Georgy Stefanov, a cleric of the Tikhvin Diocese.

Present at the church were Mr. A.Yu. Petrov, First Deputy Director General for Nuclear Energy of the State Corporation “Rosatom” and President of JSC “Atomstroyexport” (ASE); Mr. N.D. Kostyuchkov, the General Director of JSC “NPO NEPT” and numerous believers from among the plant’s employees.

At the conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Anthony delivered an archpastoral address to those gathered. Special words of gratitude were addressed to N.D. Kostyuchkov, head of JSC “NEPT,” whose efforts made possible the construction and beautification of the newly consecrated church.

Following this, a concert by the choir of the Alexander-Svirsky Monastery took place in the refectory.
