On the morning of June 16, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa. At O.R. Tambo International Airport, the hierarch was welcomed by Archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, rector of the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, Metropolitan Anthony will lead the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church in the work of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches.
Later that day, the DECR Chairman met with WCC General Secretary Rev. Jerry Pillay and visited St. Sergius Cathedral, where he venerated the sacred relics housed there.
