Rev. George Maximov, chair of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, took part in a round table meeting on Russia – Africa: Humanitarian Cooperation in the Interests of Children and Families.
In his speech Fr. George dwelt on the work the Russian Orthodox Church carries out in taking care of its orphanages in Africa.
“A year has passed and we can say that the Kenyan orphanages function successfully and we are ready to expand this work into other African countries,” Metropolitan Leonid of Klin, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, wrote in his Telegram channel.
The round table was held on the initiative of Ms Maria Lvova-Belova, Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights.
Among the participants in the meeting was Mr Oleg Ozerov, ambassador at large of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the Secretariat of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum; as well as diplomats, commissioners for children’s rights in territorial entities of the Russian Federation, entrepreneurs and representatives of charitable organisations.
