On June 12, 2026, the Russian Embassy in Mauritius hosted a Reception to celebrate Russia Day.
The distinguished guests at the event included the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool; the country’s Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam; members of the government; and diplomats from the United Nations and friendly nations.
The event was attended by Archpriest Dimitry Matienko, rector of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Port Louis, along with his wife.
During the reception, with the support of Irada Zeynalova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, Archpriest Dimitry met with Navin Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius. The parties discussed issues related to the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church on the island, the spiritual care of Orthodox Christians, as well as prospects for further cooperation.
The participants noted the importance of strengthening spiritual and cultural ties between the peoples of Russia and Mauritius, emphasizing the significant role of the Russian Orthodox Church in preserving traditional values, supporting compatriots, and developing intercultural dialogue.
The parties expressed their readiness for further cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at strengthening friendly relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Mauritius.
