A delegation from the Apostle Mark Spiritual and Educational Center of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa has begun a working visit to East African countries. The group is scheduled to visit three countries, the first of which is Malawi.
On August 11, the delegation, led by the Center’s director Archpriest Tigriy Khachatryan, arrived in Malawi. The group included Center staff members Priest Anatoly Slobodchikov and Priest Anatoly Trushin.
On August 13, Archpriest Tigriy presided over the Divine Liturgy at a private secondary school in the village of Nguludi (Chiradzulu District). Concelebrating with him were Priest Anatoly Slobodchikov, Priest Ioakim Bakali (Dean of the Malawi parishes), and local clergy.
The Liturgy was celebrated according to the Russian liturgical tradition under the guidance of the Spiritual and Educational Center’s staff.
A new version of the Liturgy Book in the Chichewa language, prepared by the Center, was used for the first time during the service.
Archpriest Tigriy delivered a sermon emphasizing the importance of unity in prayer. A Eucharistic kit was presented to the Dean, Priest Ioakim Bakali.
Priest Anatoly Slobodchikov conducted a training seminar for clergy on the preparation and storage of the Holy Gifts, offering practical recommendations for administering Communion to the faithful in their homes and in medical facilities.
Following the Liturgy, Archpriest Tigriy Khachatryan held a meeting with the deanery clergy, during which participants discussed current challenges, the preservation of fidelity to canonical Orthodoxy, and pastoral care practices. Portable vessels for carrying the Holy Gifts were presented to all the clergy.
A new educational manual developed by the Center’s staff was presented for use in Sunday schools. Priest Anatoly Slobodchikov also conducted a seminar for catechists, featuring a lively discussion on modern methods of catechesis and organizational matters. Participants received a study guide on the Parables of Christ, prepared by the staff of the Apostle Mark Spiritual and Educational Center in collaboration with the Synodal Department for Religious Education and Catechesis.
