Metropolitan Konstantin, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, has been granted the title “of Cairo and North Africa”

On the 24th of July, 2025, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church took place in Moscow. Members of the Synod produced a judgement on granting titles to diocesan bishops of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa (Journal No. 84)

The Synod decreed that the ruling bishop of the North African diocese be titled “of Cairo and North Africa”. The ruling bishop of the South-African diocese is to have the title “of Johannesburg and South Africa”.

The Synod decreed that the bishop of Cairo and North Africa is to be Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa. The temporary administration of the South African Diocese shall remain with the Metropolitan of Cairo and North Africa, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa.
