On Holy Friday, April 10, 2026, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa, celebrated Vespers with the Placement of the Holy Shroud of the Savior and Matins with the Burial Service of the Holy Shroud at the Cathedral of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg (Republic of South Africa).
His Eminence was assisted by the dean of the churches of the Diocese of Southern Africa in the Republic of South Africa, the cathedral’s rector, Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy, and the parish cleric, Deacon Stephen Hayes.
After the Great Doxology, accompanied by the singing of the funeral hymn “Holy God,” a procession with the Shroud was held.
On Holy Saturday, April 11, at St. Sergius Cathedral, Metropolitan Konstantin, assisted by the clergy, celebrated Vespers with 15 Old Testament Readings and the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great.
After the Apostolic Reading and before the reading of the Gospel, the clergy changed from their Lenten black vestments to white ones.
Following the prayer behind the ambo, His Eminence consecrated the bread and wine.
At the end of the service, Metropolitan Konstantin pronounced his archpastoral homily and consecrated the Paschal foods.
